Electrocardiogram

ECG – this is a straightforward test where 10 stickers are applied to your body (4 to the limbs, 6 to the chest). The machine records the electrical signals from the heart and prints it out. We will then interpret the ECG looking particularly to relate the findings to your symptoms.

Ambulatory monitoring – This involves wearing a small machine either as a patch on the chest, or 4 wires attached to your skin attached to a small box for 24 hours up to a week. They are designed to let you live a normal life (except swimming!) and give a longer assessment of the heart rhythm.

AliveCor – Highly useful for intermittent palpitations, applying the thumbs to a metal plate records an ECG on a mobile phone which can be emailed. This allows easy capture without requiring continuous monitoring.
